Packers: Free Agency Preview
For our inaugural Green Bay Packers post on the Fantasy Life blog I thought we’d preview the upcoming start of free agency.
To quote my father, “I’m not a pessimist, I’m a realist.” By that I mean, years of Ted Thompson Free Agency March’s have taught us that we should keep expectations low. With that in mind, let’s consider the current Packers players that are hitting free agency:

Casey Hayward
Most people expect Casey Hayward to leave via free agency, and maybe he will get a Davon House like offer from another team, but I’m not ready to give up on him. While he might not be the shutdown outside corner that the NFL covets, he succeeded in covering athletic TE’s in the slot, which has value. It is also wise to consider that we are thin behind the Top 3 corner options. For the right price Casey could come back.

Nick Perry
Mr. Perry has not lived up to his first round draft stock so far during his time in Green Bay, but why? Is it due to lack of talent or a litany of injuries? The only thing more valuable to NFL franchises than a good QB is someone who can get after them. I’m hoping Nick Perry gets to live up to his potential in green and gold.

The Offensive Line
Before you start Googling which of the Packers O-lineman are unrestricted free agents, the answer is none of them. But three of the five are up for a new contract next year, and this year’s big free agent signing can lead to next year’s cap casualty. That might be boring, but I’d rather win and be boring than lose with excitement.
Thoughts? Did I leave someone out? Let me know what you think.
